  • Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration
Supporting underserved children and their families and using an obesity model framework, this activity builds on an array of existing federal and non-federal initiatives.
  • Economics and Obesity
This activity aims to address the economics research gap in childhood obesity by connecting with new partners; establishing a platform for economics research; and developing an agenda to stimulate research on the cost effectiveness and benefit of interventions.
  • Envision
Through innovative systems modeling approaches and drawing on global expertise, three modeling networks forecast the impact of interventions and policies on childhood obesity.
  • FLASHE Study
Having pooled input from NCCOR members to strengthen its survey domains, this study is assessing correlates of obesogenic and cancer preventive behaviors among parent-adolescent dyads.

This activity is examining how diet, physical activity, and body mass index (BMI) are related to aspects of community programs and policies, such as: intensity, duration, funding, and target population.
  • Healthy Eating Index
This scoring metric developed by scientists from two of NCCOR’s funding partners helps in identifying the nutritional quality of choices at various points along the “food stream,” and enables individuals to make healthier food choices.
  • Johns Hopkins Global Center on Childhood Obesity
The Center emphasizes interdisciplinary research to study the drivers of the childhood obesity epidemic, build training capacity, provide rapid-response grants, and more.

The Collaborative is supporting the discovery of linkages between various surveys of school wellness, and evaluating the effectiveness of polices adopted following the passage of 2010 legislature.
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed)
NCCOR assembled a portfolio of existing, evidence-based and actionable tools emphasizing obesity prevention that can be adopted by SNAP agencies and providers at the state level.
  • Youth Energy Expenditure
NCCOR is assisting in updating and improving an existing compendium of youth energy expenditure, which will be invaluable for research and practice.

Past Projects

  • Evaluation Research Forum
The forum brought together childhood obesity experts to consider shared measures and methods for leveraging data and evaluating community-based and state-based strategies.
  • Farm-to-Fork Workshop on Surveillance of the U.S. Food System
During this 2012 meeting, attendees enumerated resources that characterize the U.S. food system, identified gaps in current efforts, and proposed methods for improving diet quality.
  • Food Marketing Research Roundtable
During this meeting, attendees assessed progress and discussed policy research priorities with potential to reduce children's exposure to unhealthy food marketing.
