Healthy Eating Research: Building Evidence to Prevent Childhood Obesity

Purpose: Healthy Eating Research: Building Evidence to Prevent Childhood Obesity is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). The program supports research on environmental and policy strategies with strong potential to promote healthy eating among children to prevent childhood obesity, especially among lower-income and racial and ethnic populations at highest risk for obesity. Findings are expected to advance RWJF’s efforts to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic by 2015.This call for proposals (CFP) is for two types of awards aimed at providing key decision- and policy-makers with evidence to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic by 2015. The award types are: Round 7 grants and RWJF New Connections grants awarded through the Healthy Eating Research program.
Receipt Date: Proposals for Round 7 grants:
Concept papers may be submitted at any time until August 9, 2012 (3 p.m. ET).

  • May 31, 2012 (3 p.m. ET), July 31, 2012 (3 p.m. ET), and October 4, 2012 (3 p.m. ET)—Deadlines for receipt of invited full proposals.
  • October 1, 2012, December 1, 2012, and March 1, 2013—Awards begin.

Proposals for RWJF New Connections grants awarded through Healthy Eating Research:

  • May 22, 2012 (3 p.m. ET)—Deadline for receipt of concept papers.
  • July 31, 2012 (3 p.m. ET)—Deadline for receipt of invited full proposals.
  • December 1, 2012—Awards begin.
Total Awards: Approximately $1.9 million will be awarded under this CFP for the two award types.
Eligibility: Preference will be given to applicant organizations that are either public entities or nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.Applicant organizations must be based in the United States or its territories. The focus of this program is the United States; studies in other countries will be considered only to the extent that they may directly inform U.S. Policy.
